AMERICAN/ ENGLISH SEASONS AND CELEBRATIONS



At Beatriz Galindo school, every month we show a commemorative space for the current month, where we have an "English Corner" located next to the English Department so that all students can find out about the majority of celebrations in some English-speaking countries. ) 

2021/2022 CELEBRATIONS




HALLOWEEN (October 31st)Halloween, contraction of All Hallows’ Eve, a holiday observed on October 31, the evening before All Saints’ (or All Hallows’) Day. The celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of All Saints and initiates the season of Allhallowtide, which lasts three days and concludes with All Souls’ Day



















THANKSGIVING DAY (25th November )Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. 




BLACK FRIDAY (26 NOVEMBER)the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season, on which retailers make many special offers. 
 









GUY FAWKES´DAY
 (November 5th)Guy Fawkes Day—also called Bonfire Night or Fireworks Night—commemorates a failed assassination attempt from over 400 years ago. On November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes and a group of radical English Catholics tried to assassinate King James I by blowing up Parliament's House of Lords.












REMEMBRANCE DAY (November 11th)Remembrance Sunday, in the United Kingdom, holiday held on the second Sunday of November that commemorates British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I. 







 
XMAS TIME (24th &25th December)The Christmas season, also called the holiday season (often simply called the holidays), or the festive season, is an annually recurring period recognized in many Western and other countries that is generally considered to run from late November to early January. 







MARTIN LUTHER KING CELEBRATION(on the 3rd Monday of January)In the United States, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is observed annually on the third Monday in January. The day commemorates the life and work of Dr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. 






SAINT VALENTINE´S DAY (February 14th)Valentine's Day, also called St. Valentine's Day, holiday (February 14) when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. Given their similarities, it has been suggested that the holiday has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February.








INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (March 8) International Women's Day 2022: International Women's Day (IWD), celebrated on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The women's day has been celebrated for well over a century, with the first one in 1911.

SAINT PATRICK´S DAY( March 17)

St. Patrick’s Day, held on March 17 each year, is a religious and cultural holiday that celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. This date represents the death of St. Patrick, the foremost Patron Saint of the country.

Over time, St. Patrick’s Day has become a day in which the entirety of Irish culture, not just its Christian roots, is celebrated. It became an official holiday in Ireland in 1903.
